Biographical Sketch
Jarrod Simmons was born
and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is a graduate
of Florida Atlantic University in which he obtained a
B.A. in Political Science and a Master's in Public
Administration. Jarrod is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in
Public Policy & Administration with a specialization in
Urban and Economic Development Policy. In understanding
the plight of minorities, "at-risk" youths, and the
disenfranchised, Jarrod has made a lifelong commitment
to be an advocate and a voice for those individuals who
have been disproportionately underrepresented as it
relates to social, political and economic policies. As a
result, Jarrod's entered into public service and has
over nine years of combined experience as a public
servant in the local, state, and federal government as
well as involvements in the non-profit and private
sectors.
In 2003, Jarrod Simmons
conducted legislative research for Minority House Leader
Rep. Christopher Smith (D) to write a bill concerning
economic development in distressed urban areas
throughout Florida. Jarrod spearheaded and presented an
economic development bill on the behalf of Rep. Smith
that was unanimously passed by the Florida Black
Congressional Caucus. Subsequently, the bill passed
through the Florida House of Representatives and the
Florida Senate during the legislative session in March
2003. It was later signed into law by former Governor
Jeb Bush in June 2003.
Jarrod is upholding the
true principle of scholarship and is using his formal
educational training to make applications to the real
world. He is performing scholarly research in the areas
of economic development policies, minority relations,
race and poverty, and the educational crisis in America.
Jarrod is expected to publish several scholastic
research articles that will be release in 2010.
Additionally he is working on a book project to benefit
academia and the general public to help America
transcend its conceptualization of public policy to
preserve fairness and equity to all individuals.
Jarrod's source of
motivation is driven by his faith in God that is deeply
rooted in Christianity. He has overcome personal
challenges through the support of his family and loved
ones. He recognized that only God was able to bring him
through the pitfalls that life often presents to us.
Recognizing this amazing rescue and deliverance by God,
Jarrod realizes that he must use his time, talent, and
treasure to give towards the glory of God and to also be
of service to humankind. It is this belief and
motivational that keeps him going. It is his
determination that keeps him grounded.
